Fencing has been practice for centuries, originally as training for the deadly combat of the duel, later for sport. Modern fencing is an Olympic sport that maintains such traditions as courtesy and respect for your opponent thereby building character and promoting teamwork and discipline. Fencing helps to develop smooth fluid movements in the athlete similar to dance. In a fencing match you will see two fencers performing an intense dance on a 6-feet-by-40-feet strip. The movement is very fast, and the touches are scored electrically - more like Star Wars than Errol Flynn. Fencing as a sport is extremely popular because it provides a high degree of exercise, both physical and mental. It develops coordination, speed, stamina, and agility as well as the additional benefits of poise and self-assurance. Three weapons - the Foil, the Sabre, and the Epee - are used in fencing, and there are individual and team competitions for each. Foil and Epee are "point thrusting" weapons, while the Sabre can both thrust and slash with its blade edge. All three weapons have been modified to allow for electronic scoring. All fencers wear protective masks and clothes. Maestro Fencing Club is open for all ages fencers - from 6 years old and up. Fencing is the excellent sport for recreation and ...fun! It is not only sport - it is Life stile! Never fence before? Come and try! The first Class is FREE! |
